Coding Journey So Far… Part 2

Hi Again! This site didn’t quite work out for me last year when I started it, so now is as good a time as any to try again.

To see what my original plan was, read through my first Coding Journey So Far post. The below bullets are a quick overview of it all.

  • What: Full Stack Web Developer
  • How: Self teaching using The Odin Project and FreeCodeCamp
  • By When: Have a front end job by the end of 2019

I am still working at my entry level tech job and even though there’s still 2 months, but I don’t believe I will have a new job this year. Next year I will 100% have a new job either as a front end or junior full stack developer.

I am currently making a lot of progress these past few months and have covered a lot of front end languages. I am comfortable in HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, jQuery, and Python. I am getting comfortable with Sass and Javascript. I’ve been doing Javascript for a while now, but there’s a lot of Javascript to learn. React is next on my list to learn before I start backend.

My main learning resources are now FreeCodeCamp, Udemy, and Youtube. I will occasionally use SoloLearn when I’m not near a computer. For FCC, I have completed the Responsive Certificate and am a good way through with the Javascript and Front End Libraries sections. The Udemy course I am taking covers full stack, but before I start the backend section of it, I want to keep working on front end. I’ve built a lot of projects over time and need to start re-doing my portfolio.

I have become much more active in developer communities through Facebook, Twitter, MeetUp, and a start up app called Career Karma where I’ve met a lot of fellow programmers going through the same journey. These communities have been extremely helpful in helping me see how far I’ve come but also how far I still have to go.

Stay tuned to hear how my adventure goes…
